Historic Music and Dance Workshops
for schools or enthusiastic adults

Each workshop lasts approx. one hour. All the workshops are presented in period dress, using authentic instruments and set in the historical and social context.

Programmes can be adapted to suit all ages and abilities including Special Needs and GCSE / A level (Music, History and Drama).

Medieval

Topics: Pilgrims, Crusaders and Green men.
Instruments: Pipe and tabor, rebec (early viol) and bagpipes.
Audience participation: Summer is icumen in (round + ostinato)

Bassedance

Tudor

Topics: Elizabeth I, Dancing men (a matter of life and death)
Instruments: pipe and tabor, recorders, viols and curtal (early bassoon).
Audience participation: Pavane
Washerwomen’s dance or La Volta

Restoration

Topics: Charles II, French fashions and Samuel Pepys’ diaries
Instruments: viols, recorders, violin and baroque bassoon.
Audience participation: Purcell rounds and Playford dances
